It is with great sadness that we learned of the unexpected passing of our dear friend, Board Member, and Past Chair of GFD, William (Bill) Dermody. Bill passed away on October 18, 2023.
The entire GFD organization joins together in conveying our deepest condolences to Bill’s wife Judy, his daughters Erin and Clare, relatives, friends, and staff of P. X. Dermody Funeral Homes and other funeral establishments he worked with to support so tirelessly.
Bill was a remarkable individual who left a permanent mark on GFD and those who knew him well.

Bill’s journey with GFD began in 2015 when he joined the GFD Board. He served as our esteemed Chair of the Board from 2019 to 2021. Throughout his time with us, he played a pivotal role in the success and growth of our organization.

His insights, experience and advice were of tremendous value and GFD would not be what it is today without his wise guidance and steady hand.
Bill’s influence extended far beyond the boardroom. In addition to his leadership at GFD, Bill and his family owned and operated P.X. Dermody Funeral Homes in Hamilton. Together with his family and colleagues, providing comfort and support to countless families during their times of loss, highlighting his compassionate nature and deep commitment to the bereavement sector.
Bill was not just a steward of GFD; he was also a highly respected practitioner of Business Law and Estates. His expert advice and guidance touched the lives of numerous families, further demonstrating his dedication to the well-being of others.
Bill Dermody’s passing is an immense loss, for GFD and for the broader bereavement community he touched with his warmth, wisdom, and professionalism. His legacy lives on in the success and values he helped instill within GFD, as well as the countless lives he enriched through his work in the bereavement sector and legal practice.
